Leadership & mandate

Strengthening democratic culture, in and beyond the Assembly

Promoting democracy issues in Nigeria and beyond through training, advocacy, networking, action-oriented research, publications and documentation.

The Department is headed by a Director who leads a team of research fellows. Its key objective is to facilitate training courses on democracy, political culture and development for legislators, staff and the public.

Dr. Ngara holds a PhD in Political Science from Benue State University, Makurdi, and specialises in the legislature and foreign policy. He has coordinated several national and international engagements for the Institute, including election observation missions, and researches foreign policy, women in politics, electoral and party politics, and state-society relations.

Promotes democracy issues in Nigeria and beyond through advocacy, networking and action-oriented research.

Produces publications and documentation on democratic governance.

Coordinates national and international engagements for the Institute, including election observation missions.

Maintains research focus on foreign policy, women in politics, electoral and party politics, and state-society relations.
