The Department of Legislative Support Services is one of the core departments of the Institute and is responsible for discharging the core responsibilities of the Institute and providing legislative assistance to members of the legislature. The Department is headed by a Director with two divisions headed by Deputy Directors. The Department has a team of Researchers and Legislative Drafters responsible for providing legislative services to the National Assembly, State Houses of Assemblies and ECOWAS Parliament.

Prof. Abiodun Amuda-Kannike, SAN; LLB (Hons), BL (Hons), LLM (Hons), Ph.D, is a Professor of Law, a Senior Advocate Of Nigeria, AG, Director, Department of Legislative Support Services (DLSS) of the National Institute for Legislative & Democratic Studies, NILDS, Abuja and the Pioneer Dean of the Faculty of Law, Kwara State University, Malete, Via Ilorin, Kwara State, and Justice of Peace including being a Notary public of Nigeria.

He has been honoured with over 20 Awards with the recent one as the “Most Notable and Top Solicitor of the 21st Century” endorsed by the International Chartered World Learned Society, base in the United States of America on the strength of his contributions to knowledge and the four theories he propounded on Entrepreneurship and the Law between 2019 and 2020. He has written articles on taxation and related matters.

Prof. Abiodun Amuda-Kannike, taught Law courses, at various institutions both in Nigeria and abroad. He has over 100 Journal Articles, 2 published books and contributed to more than 20 books Chapters, apart from paper presentations in seminars, conferences and occasions which are more than 50 in numbers. He is also a Fellow of the Nigerian Institute of Chartered Arbitrators (FCArb), Fellow Institute of Chartered Economists (FCE), Fellow Institute of Arts, Management and Professionals (FCIAP), Member, Chartered Institute of Taxation of Nigeria (CITN), Member, Association of Cyber Security Practitioners, ACSP, among others.

Functions & impact

Supported the development and monitoring of the Agenda of the 7th, 8th and 9th House of Representatives.

Supported the review and reform of the Laws of the Federation, drafting over 200 amendment bills.

Provided quarterly budget implementation reports to relevant committees.

Supported the development of the National Conference of Rules and Business Committees.

Conducted institutional needs assessments of the National Assembly and State Assemblies to guide intervention programmes.

Provided technical support to the Committee on Revising the Standing Rules of the House of Representatives.
